Mission Workshop X Afterschool Projects Stratus Collection

The newest collection in the continued MW x ASP collaboration, The Stratus Collection, takes inspiration from the infinite variations of clouds and atmosphere. Each piece is hand dyed using a process developed by ASP specifically for Dimension Polyant’s X10 cotton-faced waterproof fabrics. This unique fabric combines natural cotton duck with Dimension’s iconic X-Ply and a waterproof film backing to create a fabric with a classic soft hand and the tech to keep your gear dry. Cycling can bring about an amazing phenomenon. With your feet on the pedal and fingers on the bar, the same current begins to run through man and metal. Before you know it, the bike is moving intuitively to your intention, and the feeling is incredible. You and your bike has become one. There is no method to this. It doesn’t even matter what kind of bike you are riding. A child on training wheels can experience it just the same.

This artwork invites viewers to interact with it in a simple way as it interprets this transition. It uses rows of bicycle chains to form a cyclist riding off saddle. Come close and the intricate links seem to go on infinitely. Pull back slowly and the links morph into a rider in motion.

One Week left for the Ultra Distance Scholarship X Stayer Cycles Prize Draw

This Friday is the final day to enter the prize draw benefitting the Ultra Distance Scholarship (UDS), which is a new nonprofit in the UK working to increase diversity and representation within the niche world of ultra-distance cycling and racing. They provide comprehensive support packages, including a custom bicycle, bikepacking bags, cycling kit, gear, and tech, coaching, mentorship, and entry into a prominent ultra race, to three recipients a year. More than the extensive and exciting support, is the strong community that is emerging as a result. The UDS are currently running a prize draw fundraiser courtesy of one of their sponsors, Stayer Cycles, to help them continue to do their important work. There are three Stayer OMG mountain bikes up for prize draw now until November 18th, 2022. There is a small, medium, and large up for grabs and they are each wonderfully unique and one-of-a-kind. All funds raised go back into the running and expansion of the scholarship.

All money raised through this campaign will help fund the Ultra Distance Scholarship’s work this year and hopefully into the next! The major expenses of the scholarship are: coaching fees, mentorship fees, bike fitting fees, administration fees, and additional componentry, equipment and gear not currently covered by sponsors. The UDS would also love to pay some awesome folks working to make cycling more inclusive, to do some vital consultation work with them, eventually carving out a job position for someone qualified to lead the UDS to further glory (ideally POC-led).

With your support you’ll be helping the Ultra Distance Scholarship continue to provide amazing opportunities for folks who might not normally participate in these types of events. Please help them keep alive an initiative whose work is not done yet (but one day hopes to be!).

Richmond Cycling Corps visits Snowshoe

Earlier this year, Richmond Cycling Corps took their Legacy Cycling team to Snowshoe Bike Park in West Virginia for a training camp with downhill racer DeAngelo Washington. The team normally rides and competes in cross country, and many of the racers got to experience downhill riding for the first time at Snowshoe.

The training camp helped prepare the Legacy Cycling team for the upcoming race season, and the team’s skills — and excitement — grew with each new challenge. From rock drops to root sections, berms, and wall rides, the trip brought the team closer together and helped build their confidence on and off the bike.
