Our buddy and California Golde videographer Sandy Carson has released a photo book funding campaign on Indie Go Go. The book is entitled “I’ve Always Been a Cowboy In My Heart” and it dives into the humor and absurdities of the great American road trip landscape. Check it out on Indie Go Go if you dig this video!

Racing. It’s not just a hobby, for many it’s a way of life. It dictates one’s sleep schedule, diet, and just about every other facet of life, at the same time directly influencing them in both positive and negative ways. Author Laura Winberry has found catharsis from the stresses of racing in the form of poetry.

Over the years, Laura took her experiences and turned them into beautiful stanzas, verses and rhythms, which in a lot of ways expose the rigors of racing, while subverting the physical activity into something poetic, beautiful and powerful. Because racing is life, Laura’s own struggles and victories have seeped into these wells of lyrical prose, resulting in an entertaining, yet intimate look at what it means to give it your all on the bike.

For the past two years, Yonder Journal has traveled the globe to investigate and report on bikepacking / ultra-lightweight bicycle touring. They called this project Dead Reckoning. As someone who is always looking for visual references or inspiration for cycling photography, when I think I’ve hit a creative block, picking up a photo book inspires me to not only pick the camera back up, but refresh my perspective on the world. In an age when digital media has taken over print, finds like this bring back the desire to make and create meaningful, timeless photography. Even if you’re not a photographer, a good photo book on cycling really makes you appreciate the sport, especially during the Tour de France! I can say without a doubt that the latest publication from Magnum has piqued my interest.

Look, I’m not selling you on this book, I’m only saying the next time you’re in the mood to buy a hardcover photo book, do not miss Magnum Cycling. Even if you just flip through the digital files at their site. But if you do wish to purchase it, your local book store can order these quite easily. Mine did!

We’ve featured Spencer Harding’s photos in the past here at the Radavist and while digital, or online photos are great to look out, printed books or zines make for great conversation pieces or coffee table reading. Spencer has taken some of his more memorable trips and made beautifully-printed, perfect bound photo books from them, all from $15 to $25 in limited runs. He’s got a Kickstarter going right now for Smell the [City of] Roses book. I always love a good photography book, especially from someone as talented as Damian. Even if you don’t want to contribute to the Kickstarter, have a look through his Flickr. I suppose you could flip through those like a book…

I love seeing frame builders getting much-deserved recognition, especially in print. Here’s an interesting project, 73 Degrees:
