Crust Bikes Hold Your Horses – HYH – Grips

Eagle-eyed readers would have noted some new grips from Crust Bikes in our Australia HQ showcase. Well, the Hold Your Horses grips, or HYH for short, have just dropped in the brand’s webshop. The HYH grip has a comfortable ergonomic form, inspired by early BMX and MTB grips in the 1980s. This shape is comfy no matter if you’re riding two-hundred miles or two. It’s not a lock on, but its a thick rubber and a tight fit, so it grabs the bar and stays put. The benefits to it not being a lock on means they don’t cost $45, which is cool for everyone, and you get super cool moto-esque hand guard flanges on either side, which work really well.

WTB Unveils a Whole New Grip Lineup

WTB was one of the first MTB companies and in their early days used to carve down Magura motorcycle grips for MTB use. The brand has come a long way since launching the Toe Flip, and today it announced a whole new grip lineup ($29 each) with varying thickness, profiles, and in two colors; black and tan. Let’s look at these all-new grips below…

Down With the Thickness: A Race Face Chester Grip Review

Normally, this review would get shuffled into a Radar Roundup. Let’s be real, it’s just a mountain bike grip. But Travis Engel has been using the new Race Face Chester for a few weeks now, and he thought it deserved a spotlight, thanks to its two available sizes and surprisingly clever design. Also, the next Radar Roundup isn’t until Monday, and the Chester launch will probably be old news by then. It’s just a mountain bike grip.

Everything and the Kitchen Sink: Redshift Sports Comfort Components Review Roundup

Founded in 2013 by a group of mechanical engineers with a bad cycling habit (or, maybe the other way around?), Redshift Sports specializes in designing and manufacturing component systems to increase speed and comfort on the bike. In this review round-up, Hailey Moore assesses a handful of Redshift’s products—the Quick-Release Aerobars, Shocktop Pro Suspension Seatpost, Cruise Control Drop Bar Grips, and the Kitchen Sink Handlebar—and how they might benefit road and gravel-oriented riders as part of Redshift’s intended systems, or as standalone additions to any all-road setup.

Ergon’s New Gravity and Downhill-Inspired GD1 Evo MTB Grips

We’ve sung Ergon’s praises before and a recent announcement should pique the interest of DH and gravity riders. The new GD1 MTB grip offers ergonomics and comfort, fine-tuned for the rigors of racing flat-out down the most rugged trails. The GD1 Evo features more damping, better control, and enhanced comfort, resulting in less gripping power due to its conical shape, super soft thumb zone, and new inner stop design. In addition, the factory version features a unique rubber compound exclusively made in Germany for an even more precise grip feel. The GD1 Evo is twist-proof on carbon handlebars and available in two diameters.

Ergon’s 2020 GE1 Grip Range Features New Colors

If you look at all my mountain bikes, you’ll note they all share one thing in common: the grips! A few years back, I got hit by a car and broke my pinky. It took months of PT to get my grip back to where I could feel comfortable on a mountain bike again. Yet, one thing I noticed was severe pain while on long descents. I tried everything but then a friend turned me on to the GE1 grips from Ergon and I never experienced pain again. Now, I’m not a physical therapist or a bike fit specialist, but the team at Ergon have designed the best grips I’ve ever used and they fixed my hand pain.

New for 2020 are my favorite grips, back in a few new colors. Take these olive drab and desert tan grips. It’s like they made them especially for us! The new 2020 designs from Ergon are shipping now, so holler at your shop to order you a pair if you too are a fan.

Wolf Tooth Announces Their Fattest Grips Yet, the Mega Fat Paw

Fat grips aren’t for everyone and we all know that grip preferences are like saddles in that they vary widely between riders. While super thick grips don’t benefit everyone, a growing number of people actually benefit from the larger diameter, softer durometer grips being offered by many brands. These grips spread the load on your hands to reduce pressure spots, which is a huge concern to cyclists who have experienced finger numbness due to too much pressure on the ulnar nerve.

Wolf Tooth’s newest grips, the 11.5mm thick Mega Fat Paw and the Mega Fat Paw Cam grips look to offer their fattest diameter year. On top of the other issues they can alleviate, the fat diameter also provides excellent vibration damping. For even more tunable comfort the Fat Paw Cam grips can be rotated to fit your preferred grip patterning. All this with a 40mm diameter.
