For those riders looking for a less-baggy, more slim-cut mtb short, the Mission Workshop Traverse XC short is just that. The same details that made their Traverse short popular, just slimmed down. Available in black or Sutro camo.

Mission Workshop: the Sector Merino Crew Neck
A few good merino crew necks are staples in anyone’s wardrobe. I’ve been wearing a sample of this shirt for about three years. It’s become a favorite shirt for riding, traveling and day to day wear.
The Sector is Mission Workshop’s 18.9 micron 190g/sm Australian Merino Wool crew neck and to give it an extra strong resilience, they spun nylon into the weave. Made in San Francisco and in stock now at Mission Workshop.

Mission Workshop’s New and Improved Bosun Merino Jacket
The Bosun was one of Mission’s favorite jackets and so when a relaunch was in order, they took the time for a little fine-tuning the tailoring. They updated the jacket to include a removable hood with zippered front hand warmer pockets, as well as cleaning up the fit. The new and improved Bosun Merino Jacket is constructed using 380 GSM Australian Merino wool that is spun with 2% lycra to increase stretch and durability. Wear it alone or layered with a rain jacket. Made in the USA, in limited quantities and shipping mid-February. See more at Mission Workshop.

This looks amazing!
“Trails can’t be measured on a universal scale. There doesn’t exist a comparison of flow to stoke that equates to a universal metric — no ‘trail spectator’ out of 100, no simple charts or graphs. Rather, the experience of the trail, as related to euphoria, is a continuous collection of multitudes extending in all dimensions. There are too many variables to include in the equation, and a limit to the math. It takes a special cultivated knowledge of proximal landscapes to understand and create the right experience. And to maximize this experience it’s not just about finding amazing trails, but the process of linking landscapes through a vast network of natural terrain.”
Ash Smith sums it up best:
“Yes, you’re looking for awesome trails, but you’re also looking — on a bigger scale — for corridors of flow, through this network of nodes and edges. Through this network which we’ve been blessed with from the agricultural past and trading past. It’s all there; we just need to find the best ways through it.”

Mission Workshop: Ask a Founder – Mike Sinyard
October 10th brings about yet another Ask a Founder event at Mission Workshop. This time, it features Mike Sinyard of Specialized Bicycles.
“The Founders Event was created in effort to pull the curtain back and learn more about cycling brands that we respect. We as an industry tend to focus on the stunning finished parts but not as much on the struggle it takes to get there. For the event we simply turn the cameras on, step back and watch the story unfold. We cover the inspiration behind ideas, the projects that never got off the ground and everything in between.
For our fourth installment of this project we present to you the relatively unknown founder of one of the cycling world’s leading innovative forces. Mike Sinyard of Specialized will now take your questions. Join us Saturday October 10th at 7PM PST to watch Mike live on Bikemag.com. Be part of the event by asking Mike a question via Twitter using “#AskSinyard” as the hashtag. Live audience space is limited, if you can make it to Mission Workshop San Francisco, email RSVP@missionworkshop.com for a seat.”
Reportage
Eric’s Gilded Speedvagen Rugged Road
“The unicorn is a legendary animal that has been described since antiquity as a beast with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead. The unicorn was depicted in ancient seals of the Indus Valley Civilization and was mentioned by the ancient Greeks in accounts of natural history by various writers, including Ctesias, Strabo, Pliny the Younger, and Aelian. The Bible also describes an animal, the re’em, which some translations have erroneously rendered with the word unicorn.” Wikipedia
While this bike isn’t as rare as a unicorn (my uncle saw one once in West Virginia on a bootleggin’ run), it’s safe to say that we’d all rather ride atop this bicycle, over a smelly horse with a horn.
Eric is a lucky sonofagun. After having his bike taken from him, he used his insurance money, along with money he had saved up for a custom bike to put a deposit down on a Speedvagen Rugged Road.

Mission Workshop: Black MultiCam Sanction with Arkiv Hardware
I cannot get enough of this material. Designed and manufactured in the USA, black MultiCam may be a bit fashion-centric but it’s so subtle that it’s innocuous. Mission Workshop continues to trickle it down its line with this limited edition Sanction rucksack but they added a hi-vis orange waterproof ripstop nylon liner and their patented Arkiv closure system.
The Sanction is the younger sibling to the Fitzroy, the larger sized rucksack but has all the necessary space for a quality day pack.
Made in the USA with a lifetime warranty. Scoop one up at Mission Workshop.
