Pat Cummins is a big sweetheart. The ex-MMA fighter is a lover of singlespeeds and mountains. I shot some photos for Outside Magazine of him a few years back on his rigid Niner. He usually rides his singlespeed exclusively but his recent acquisition has some extra gears. Read on below for some photos of this new build by the Cub House, with words by Danny from the Cub House.

If you’ve got a 2020 RLT 9 or MCR 9 Niner gravel bike and are looking for some integrated bag options for longer rides, then check out their new bolt-on bags, designed to specifically fit their new model gravel bikes. Included in this product drop are a one-size “bento” top tube bag and a front triangle bag, which is available in five sizes. Four years ago, while visiting a big cycling company, a bike like this was hanging in a corner of a conference room. It was a prototype that they said would never see the light of day. At the time, I joked about how it would cause such a stir amongst both mountain bikers and road cyclists alike. While the other brand kept their bike locked up, Niner went public with the same idea. They created the MCR, displayed it at Sea Otter, and just leaked a bit of information, slating a 2019 dealer release, making it official:

“So, with our expertise in off-road bikes, we’ve developed a gravel bike that can tackle the roughest roads without sacrificing performance for comfort. The MCR utilizes Niner’s patented CVA suspension design with a leverage ratio tuned specifically for shorter travel, suspending the whole bike, not just the rider, bringing greater comfort, control and efficiency to the gravel riding experience. This means you’ll be able to run higher tire pressure, which will come in handy when you need to switch from road to groad. No more adjusting tire pressure mid-ride.”

Niner just resurrected the popular SIR 9 hardtail MTB and it was well worth the wait. Niner’s tried and true RLT 9 Steel platform got some upgrades with its latest model. These upgrades include flat mount disc brakes, more bottle bosses, mounts on the fork as well as a bolt-on top tube bag attachment. These frames will fit a 1.75″ tire, as well as double and triple cranksets. The new RLT 9 Steel is available in 1-star up to 4-star builds from both Shimano and SRAM. Head to Niner to see more.

Niner took the popular RLT 9 steel model and made it a carbon RDO model. There are many reasons for this permutation, yet the overall difference is weight. I’ve seen and held one in person and it’s incredibly light. More on this to come this week, but for now check out this video and more information at Niner.

Not everyone can drop upwards of $9,000 on a trail bike and not every rider wants rocks pinging off the tubes on a carbon fiber frame.
