Niner is Either Pushing Buttons or Pushing the Envelope with the MCR

Four years ago, while visiting a big cycling company, a bike like this was hanging in a corner of a conference room. It was a prototype that they said would never see the light of day. At the time, I joked about how it would cause such a stir amongst both mountain bikers and road cyclists alike. While the other brand kept their bike locked up, Niner went public with the same idea. They created the MCR, displayed it at Sea Otter, and just leaked a bit of information, slating a 2019 dealer release, making it official:

“So, with our expertise in off-road bikes, we’ve developed a gravel bike that can tackle the roughest roads without sacrificing performance for comfort. The MCR utilizes Niner’s patented CVA suspension design with a leverage ratio tuned specifically for shorter travel, suspending the whole bike, not just the rider, bringing greater comfort, control and efficiency to the gravel riding experience. This means you’ll be able to run higher tire pressure, which will come in handy when you need to switch from road to groad. No more adjusting tire pressure mid-ride.”

These frames will fit a 1.75″ tire, as well as double and triple cranksets. The new RLT 9 Steel is available in 1-star up to 4-star builds from both Shimano and SRAM. Head to Niner to see more.

Niner’s New RLT 9 RDO

Niner took the popular RLT 9 steel model and made it a carbon RDO model. There are many reasons for this permutation, yet the overall difference is weight. I’ve seen and held one in person and it’s incredibly light. More on this to come this week, but for now check out this video and more information at Niner.

Niner Launches the Alloy JET 27.5+ 29r

Not everyone can drop upwards of $9,000 on a trail bike and not every rider wants rocks pinging off the tubes on a carbon fiber frame. Knowing this, Niner launched their popular JET RDO 27.5+ 29r frameset in an alloy version. Utilizing the same CVA suspension and engineering standards as the JET RDO, the new JET 9 is made for tackling your local trails, all at a pricepoint of $2,600.00 with SRAM NX-1. Check out more specs at Niner and see a few more product photos below. Keep an eye on Niner’s demo days via your local dealer to test one out.

Jump Around with Kyle and His Niner RIP 9 RDO

Bounce, bounce, bounce. Every time I’ve ridden mountain bikes with Kyle over the past year, he’s barely had both wheels on the ground. He’s been riding a carbon Niner RIP 9 RDO, with Shimano XT and all the dressings of one of Niner’s three-star build. It’s still an expensive bike, when compared to something like a hard tail, yet the $5,700 pricetag doesn’t pinch as much as some other full suspension bikes featured here on the site in years past.

Kyle’s Niner Ros 9+ is Loaded for the Adventure Cycling Bikecentennial Celebration

Beginning from a cross country bike ride in 1976 to celebrate the U.S. Bicentennial, Adventure Cycling has dedicated its existence to those wishing to explore the cycle touring routes throughout the United States. To commemorate over 40 years of documenting, publishing and celebrating cycle tourism, the ACA is throwing a party in Montana. Dubbed the Montana Bicycle Celebration, riders from all over the country are flocking to Missoula on July 15th through the 17th. It’s this celebration that prompted a rather large group of people to fly into Banff, Alberta and ride to Missoula along the Great Divide Route.

Kyle and Liz are leaving a few days earlier to take their time and soak in the epicness that is the Tour Divide but before he left, I shot some photos of his Ros 9+ with its new Stinner Frameworks fork. This addition allows Kyle to mount Anything Cages to his bike, giving him the extra room he’ll need on this two-week journey.

Hopefully we’ll have photos from this trip up on the site next month, thanks to Andrew The Maker‘s nifty rolltop handlebar camera bag. If you’re going to the ACA Montana Bicycle Celebration, be sure to give this group of wayward riders a high five and a beer!

… and you can now get on top of one for $500 off. If you’ve already got a kit, the carbon frame is $2,400 or a GX1 build is $4,100. The RIP 9 RDO is a “quiver killer,” designed for either a 120mm or 140mm front fork, and plenty rowdy to take on legit trails, while being nimble enough for fast XC action. Kyle’s been riding one for the past few weeks and loves it. If you’re interested, get over to a dealer today to order.

A few months ago James Scriven from Niner Bikes reached out and asked me to go on a bike ride with him. I agreed as soon as he asked and only afterwards began to understand what I had signed up for. As the details trickled in I found out that I wouldn’t be riding my own bike, but instead would be on a Special Edition Niner RLT. The bike would be auctioned off after the ride to benefit the International Mountain Bike Association. I wouldn’t even be using my own gear. The bike would be equipped with Blackburn bags, Big Agnes was providing the camping gear and Kitsbow even made a special pair of custom jean shorts for me to wear. Side note: my signature model can be expected to appear sometime in the year 2020.
