BÖIKZMÖIND: The Full Fixed Gear Bicycle Documentary

It’s been a while, but the full BÖIKZMÖIND is now online, for free!

“BÖIKZMÖIND is a 30 minute film about riding fixed gear bikes in beautiful city of Bristol, UK. The film shows the diverse cross section of riders and asks why ride bikes with no gears in a city full of hills. It also shines a light on the community and camaraderie that comes with the simple joy of riding bicycles. This is the full film, released in 2011, which was previously only available to watch as a purchased digital download, but now 3 years after it’s initial debut, we’ve decided to put the full film online for everyone to enjoy!

The film’s soundtrack was curated & provided by Redg Weeks of Bristol’s own Invada Records and features BEAK>, The Fauns, Quakers and more! invada.co.uk You can buy a DVD hard copy of the film though, which comes in a specially designed screenprint-wrapped package with 97-page photobook, documenting the creation of the film. Grab one right here: boikzmoind.bigcartel.com. You can also purchase the digital file + a 20-minute ‘making of’ edit by clicking right here: gumroad.com/boikzmoind

Merckx Mondays

M-m-m-molteni Monday! While Tracko’s got a sweet Merckx Mondays post up, I’m adding to the bike coveting with this sick Molteni Pista up on eBay. If I had the money and if this thing was a little bit bigger, I’d swoop it up for sure. Some background, this is being sold by a reader, who’s a photographer in need of some new glass. I’ve been there before and it’s a tough sacrifice to make.

See the rest of Anthony’s Eddy Merckx Pista in high res here or try your luck, bidding on it at eBay!

I love Euro track bikes and FYXO’s photography, but most importantly, I appreciate his anecdotal approach to giving a background to his photoshoot. Check out more from this raconteur at FYXO!

Another Bike on its Side

I’m still going through all the madness from Los Angeles. This one in particular came as a last minute surprise. Luka’s Cannondale track. Pristine condition. He even has the original wheels at home. As always, more on this to come!

Icarus Fade Chevron Singlespeed Frame

Reportage

Icarus Fade Chevron Singlespeed Frame

It’s kind of nice living two miles from Icarus Frames‘ shop in South Austin. When Ian gets in a frame from paint, I can just cruise on over and shoot a few photos. When he gets a frame in like this singlespeed road however, I spend a little more time documenting it.

This is a custom bicycle. It’s a NAHBS-worthy bike, although Ian has never shown at NAHBS. The detailing is above and beyond your average frame. Everything is shaped, carved and sculpted to perfection. Stainless rear, stainless lugs, internal routing, polished everything, immaculate shorelines, covered by a wild wet paint job, courtesy of Fresh Frame.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen something so dialed come out of Ian’s shop and to think, his queue has a quick turnaround. I just wish I could have photographed the complete bike!

Check out more insane details in the Gallery.

Big Dirty Rage Race

When someone says the following words, in any order, I get chills: bike, China, race. Especially in Beijing! Big Dirty threw a rather intense race earlier this year: Tianjin to Beijing, 130km in 35C weather. Count. Me. Out!

Recent Roll: Stanridge Speed and Death Spray Custom Highstreet Track

I’m usually pretty good at keeping my film in check. Especially on my Mamiya 7ii. It literally costs me $2 every time that shutter button is pressed. So you can imagine my regret when I went to load a new roll of film after shooting some photos at Standridge Speed, to find my camera was loaded with Kodak TMAX 400 black and white.

I had just photographed one of the raddest bikes, with the brightest and most elaborate paint jobs, in black and white film, yet it still does Death Spray Custom some justice. To top it off, I left all my extra film at home, so I couldn’t shoot more.
